Yowza!

Nervous enough with the bombings in London
I plough through Union Station for a paper,
blasted by a sodding downpour as I emerge
from L'Enfant Metro, crepe myrtles buffeted
by the storm, umbrella arm soaked, hop
over puddles. I felt relieved to see
the George W. Bush action figure at attention
beside Tony Blair as the P.M. spoke out--
George and Dick Cheney have assured
us Al Queda is on the ropes. Better order
more air strikes in Iraq and Afghanistan, make
some more little Jihadists to hit us again.

Hi Chris
I like your poem. I hate our bombings. I hate terrorism. While yes, our bombings create more anger, I feel very ambivalent about blaming terrorist acts on just that. Terrorism has been around and active well before we bombed the middle east countries. I just prefer to dislike both ways of fighting and not blame one for the other.

I too would love to live in a world where there's no war, no unfair trade, no poverty, and no blood spilled for land, religion or economic reasons. I believe one day we will truly get there, one day we will be ONE world. We close in to this dream everyday, and like with everything that is good and worthwhile, there's a price to pay.
I am sure if a dear friend or family member of yours was one of the thousands slaughtered in Manhattan you may have a different opinion, given that as a society we seek justice for those we love who've been wronged.

I lost a friend there.
I am truly sorry to say I want those bastards punished, even though my opinion may sound barbaric and uncivilized. I don’t care. Free will stops at the heart, because we have no control over our hearts wishes. Hate and Love are so-so very close.

I respect your right to express yourself, but I disagree with your point of view.

I support our government even though it is not perfect.

I respect every soldier fighting for your freedom and mine.

Just like I would not stand back and watch a purse-snatcher abuse a woman...we cannot stand around as a country and watch terrorists prey on the innocent.

I am thankful that you and I can express our point of views without political retribution.

Regards to all- DQ

Hi DQ
Yes, freedom of expression is what it's all about. I'm very very sorry to hear about your loss. The Towers. I watched them being built. I was on them, after they were completed. I remember standing on the observation tower wondering ,ironically ,what it would be like to fall from such a great height. I thought about that question the day when I saw the people jumping. It was horrid!

I support our soldiers. My first husband fought in Nam and I know what it was like for the men coming home from that war. My problem is that I don't know if we're even after the right people who did the Tower bombings or other bombings. I wonder if we'll ever know. That's why I don't unilaterally support Bush's actions. He took us in under false pretenses and no proof.

Hi Pris and Keros

Thank you both for your feedback. Keros, I respect your point of view. We all have to deal with what is going on in our own way. I do think that the United States made a major mistake going into Iraq... Afghanistan was justified, Iraq was not. The resources that are being poured down the tube could be being used to make this country safer from terrorist threats.
