hay(na)ku for a new year

the one person
in this
empty

room
requires your
light, perhaps even

your unwavering belief
in her/
him

assuring
for all
purposes the free

pour of your
limbs toward
dance

floating
above sidewalks
through the city

and across fields
gathering your
footprints

history
remains this
treasured accumulation of

your living for
this frame
this

incidental
seeming scope
defined by choice

to lift or
to descend
as

you
consistently hinge
the two into

a needed evidence
that best
things

create
new foreground
always enough to

instigate new forms
of love
itself

each
apparition admonishes:
do not fear

and the suppression
of habitual
trained

impulse
caringly informs
the better choice

the actual occurrence
replete with
understanding

of
the palpable
reality of healing
